Where do you find them?

Hey there! I am mainly interested in collecting vintage photos of photographers with their cameras.

Where do you find your photos? Besides eBay...

How often do you come across photos with cameras in them?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!
James B

How do I share a photo here?

Hi,

I would love to try reviving this tribe a bit ... I've got a small but wonderful collection of vintage photos. (When I say small it's TINY compared to most of yours, I'm sure, but it's curated according to very specific criteria, and a teeny budget) ... I'd like to share some or all of it ...

... I think I can just post a picture but then how do I let people know I've done that? Do I post separately and they post here and say "Hey y'all, go check it out?" Yes, my lack of experience is showing. And my socks don't match. I prefer to think of it as charmingly anachronistic, not embarassing.

Thanks,

Laurie Ann

Stories for your vintage photos

I worked for an archive for a while transcribing letters from the 1850s (my fave day job ever), and ever since that project, I find that I want to make up lives and stories for the photos I've adopted. I sometimes name the people in them, or take the names written in the long-gone,gorgeous script that none of us seem to have anymore and wonder about who they were, where the lived, why they had the photo taken, and who they were sending them to. Particularly for the formal portraits I've found.

For the quirky group shots, the blurry-in-the-orchard-making-a-face-in-1918 shots, I just wish myself back there for a day. I long to hear the conversations being had and the laughter being shared.

Does anyone else do this or something similar?

(And then of course, there is the "I want the clothing in this picture" lust...but that's a different thing entirely. *grin*)

Around the turn of the century, many photographs were printed with postcard backs. Some were one-of-a-kind; others were commercial ventures. Anyone here besides me collect those?

Ive scanned some of the family heirloom type photos to post. The family was from Poland, but as you can see by the back of the one photo, the characters appear to be Russian. So by age of the photos and that factor Im theorizing RussoPoland. Im not a collector per se as much as I am family archivist with this stuff. Least I am in my house. Ive also got a bunch of photos taken by the Belgian Resistance during WW2 I should scan sometime.

People from all over the world are there. It's so much fun. But also there are group logs where anyone can upload on a particular subject and I found one on antique photos. Please post here if you find other fotologs with an antique photo them. fotolog antiques

Kids on goat carts: victorian photos

Hey,
My ex and I used to collect vintage victorian photographs of children riding on goat carts. They were quite popular in the day.

Now, I am into vintage cowgirl shots. And I'll always be into 'kids on santa's lap' photos.

What are your vintage photo interests?
